HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS

Say goodbye to painful waxing, plucking or the discomfort of ingrown hairs and say hello to silky, smooth skin!

Laser targets hair follicle

The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the energy produced by the laser, resulting in its destruction and preventing the hair from ever regenerating. As a general rule, hair must be darker than the surrounding skin in order to be effectively treated. White, grey, blonde, and red hair is non-responsive. It's important to note that individuals with darker skin tones can also be excellent candidates for laser hair removal treatments.

While the laser energy needs to be adjusted to avoid potential skin damage, advancements in technology have made it possible to safely and effectively target the hair follicles without compromising the skin's well-being. Darker skin tone individuals can now benefit from laser hair removal with the appropriate adjustments to ensure optimal results.

HowLaserHairRemovalWorks

Hair Reduction

Once we destroy a hair follicle, it will never produce hair again. Any remaining hair follicles will produce hairs that are lighter and thinner, requiring much less attention than before. We offer clearance of roughly 85-99%, with some variation from person to person.

Hair Growth Cycle

It is important to note that lasers treat hair follicles best when they are in their active state of growth. Because hair has three phases of development, Anagen (the growing phase), Catagen (the resting phase) and Telogen (the shedding phase) not all hairs are simultaneously growing. As a result, multiple treatments are needed to achieve the highest levels of permanent hair removal.

Superior Results

Results typically range in reduction of hair is 85-99% of all treated hairs. On average, 6-8 sessions spaced roughly 6-8 weeks apart are needed to achieve such optimal results. Individual response can certainly vary, and we will explore expectations with you once we understand your skin type and hair characteristics. New hair follicles may form over time as a result of aging, hormonal changes, and individual genetics. For these reasons, some clients elect to schedule annual touch-up treatments to maintain their results.

We use the most sophisticated, advanced and powerful laser system in the industry.

If you compare laser hair removal clinics, you’ll find that every provider claims to have the best technology. What the vast majority of clinics don’t do, however, is tell you why. Our solution is the Lumenis Splendor X. The Lumenis system is the most sophisticated and technologically-advanced FDA approved Alexandrite laser on the market today – ensuring the highest levels of efficacy. As an Alexandrite and Nd: yag Laser, it produces both a 755 nm and 1064 nm wavelength laser beam that most strongly targets melanin in the hair shaft while safely avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue.

Our Lumenis Splendor X

When Lumenis created the Splendor X, they sought to improve the performance of available lasers for hair removal. To do so, they combined two laser wavelengths into a single platform. This allows the Splendor X to deliver optimal hair removal regardless of the client's skin type and hair color. It features numerous improvements, such as large spot sizes, fast repetition, and a square spot shape, giving the ultimate flexibility when using Splendor X for removing hair permanently on our clients.

  • Blend X — The Splendor X synchs two laser wavelengths, Nd:YAG (1064nm) and Alexandrite (755nm) into one delivery option. This enables us to adjust the treatment to the client's skin type, hair color, and hair thickness.

  • Square shape spot sizes — The Splendor X delivers its laser energy in a square spot shape. This is an improvement over the usual circular spot shapes. This allows our technicians to cover the treatment areas in a uniform pattern. This eliminates overlap and the need for later touch-ups of missed spots.

  • Fast treatments — The Splendor X has a large spot size, 27 mm x 27 mm, and a rapid repetition rate. This makes for much faster treatment times.

  • Cooling — Splendor X features a dual cooling system designed to deliver contact cooling and cold air exactly over the treated area. This keeps our clients comfortable during their laser hair removal sessions.

Cooling methods for comfort

To ensure the highest level of comfort, we couple our Splendor-X system with the most effective cooling device on the market – The Cryo 6 by Zimmer. It is rated as the safest stand alone epidermal cooling device by many doctors; in addition to the cooling tip– and we agree.

Unlike other cooling methods, such as contact cooling, cryogen spray (oftentimes advertised as a DCD), or ice packs, the cold air cools the skin BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER treatment. With the cold air cooling system, safety is further increased by minimizing thermal warming within the epidermis and greatly reduces the typical redness or swelling sometimes associated with laser hair removal.

Large 27mm spot size

Splendor X delivers laser energy in fast repetitions onto the unwanted hair. The large 27mm spot size and square shape ensure we completely cover the entire area without any missed portions or unnecessary overlap. The two laser wavelengths allow us the ultimate flexibility to adjust the energy delivered for any skin type and hair color.

Once we’ve matched the laser wavelength to the color of the melanin in your unwanted hair, the Splendor X delivers short, fast bursts of laser energy down onto the unwanted hairs. At the same time, the system’s dual cooling system delivers contact cooling directly onto the skin and cold air over the wider treated area. This keeps clients completely comfortable.

As the laser energy hits the unwanted hairs, the melanin in the hair shafts absorbs the light energy, which instantly converts to heat. This heat then travels down the hair shaft into the hair follicle where it is anchored. There the heat destroys or thoroughly damages the hair follicle, precluding it from producing hair in the future.

We treat all skin types

At 40 Esthetics we’ve been thrilled with the versatility of the Splendor X system. Lumenis has powered Splendor X with what it calls “Blend X” technology. This is the combination of nd:YAG and Alexandrite laser wavelengths. The two wavelengths can be synchronized to be fired with varying proportions, and this allows us to tailor our treatments according to the client's skin type, hair color, and hair thickness. This allows us to use the Splendor X for darker skin tones and lighter hair colors than could be treated by most lasers.

When dealing with darker skin tones or lighter hair colors, it becomes crucial to adjust the laser energy significantly. This adjustment is necessary because the laser often struggles to distinguish between the hair color and the skin color. Utilizing high energy in such cases can result in skin damage, underscoring the importance of reducing the power output. However, lowering the power poses a challenge as it may not sufficiently damage the hair follicle to the desired extent, despite protecting the skin from harm.

We can avoid these issues with the Splendor X, thanks to the system’s versatility.

LASER-HAIR-REMOVAL-MEN-BACK

Laser Hair Removal for Men

Laser hair removal is not simply for women; it is a popular choice for men as well. Many men opt for this highly effective and long-lasting procedure to tackle unwanted hair growth in areas such as the back, chest, shoulders, abdomen, and neck, where excess hair can be more prevalent. With its non-invasive and relatively painless nature, laser hair removal offers men the opportunity to achieve smoother and more refined skin, enhancing their grooming routine and boosting their confidence. It's a versatile solution for both genders, providing a convenient and reliable method to manage unwanted hair for the long term.

Our Laser Technology

Simply stated, for all skin types, Splendor-X provides the very best in permanent hair removal.  It effectively targets the melanin within each hair follicle while safely avoiding injury to the surrounding skin. It’s a process called Selective Photothermolysis. Claims that Diode or Intense Pulsated Light (IPL) sources are superior methods have not been supported by unbiased clinical research.

As we specialize in laser hair removal, we have identified the most advanced Alexandrite and YAG platform so that we can deliver the very best in permanent hair reduction.

Your safety is important to us

Safe and effective treatment is achieved by destroying hair follicles without causing damage to the epidermis (the tissue making up the skin composition surrounding the hair shaft). In selecting optimal treatment settings, the practitioner must balance many variables, which is why the right laser platform combined with a highly experienced staff is essential.

At 40 Esthetics, we pride ourselves in a highly trained and experienced staff. In fact, we have performed thousands of treatments. It’s how we set ourselves apart. Our laser technology also allows us to distinguish our services. We are able to highly customize energy levels given your skin tone, hair coarseness, and hair color. By doing so, we are able to best select optimal levels of energy to destroy the hair follicle while maintaining FDA approved safety parameters that are designed to prevent injury to the epidermis. As such, our certified laser professionals coupled with our selection of laser technology ensures that you receive the highest value, safety, and quality of treatment in today’s laser hair removal market.
